**Update**: We've had another national newspaper review, this time under the title ["The app that's a monster hit"](http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/books/news/frankenstein-the-app-thats-a-monster-hit-7669147.html "Independent review"), in **The Independent**. With about a week and a half to go to release, _[Frankenstein](/content/frankenstein "frankenstein"/index.html)_ has started to pop up in a few more places around the internet, and in print. First up, [a detailed interview](http://goodereader.com/blog/electronic-readers/british-startup-inkle-takes-off-with-launch-of-interactive-frankenstein/ "Interview with Good E-Reader") with [Good E-Reader](http://goodereader.com/ "Good E-Reader"), in which I discuss **inkle** and interactive apps, and Dave talks adapting the story of Frankenstein. Then there's a (slightly unexpected, but most welcome) [half-review half-discussion of the Apple/DOJ court-case](http://janefriedman.com/2012/04/12/writing-on-the-ether-33/ "Porter Anderson's article") by Porter Anderson, as illustrated by **inkle**. Finally, a [somewhat negative review](http://www.guardian.co.uk/books/2012/apr/15/mary-shelley-frankenstein-app-review "Observer review") with a great, salacious headline, which was printed in **The Observer**. Dave [wrote a short response to it](http://fabledlands.blogspot.co.uk/2012/04/hey-monster-leave-that-kid-alone.html "Dave's reply"), to correct a unfortunate few factual errors on the choices you are - or aren't given - and how these adapt as you read the story. A quick pull-quote Dave wrote about why choice doesn't always equal control: > Who, after all, makes an arbitrary spur-of-the-moment decision to kill in cold blood? "Would you like to strangle the boy? And do you want fries with that?" I was struck by how the issue of reader expectations and trust in the author and medium come into play. I wonder how many readers of the original _Frankenstein_ dismissed it as ["a tissue of horrible and disgusting absurdity"](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frankenstein#Reception "Frankenstein's original reception"), and so never stopped to consider its wide-ranging themes, or rebirth and humanity and self? Let them whinge about how interactive fiction is the downfall of reading and all that. The reality is new media doesn't replace old, it's just another option. I'm an avid reader, but I'd far rather read your interactive retelling of Frankenstein than Shelley's original. Good luck!
