For those of you playing Sorcery!..

A quick note to all Sorcery! players - if you've finished already and are thinking of replaying, but are worried about your save game, we want to reassure you: in Part 2, you'll be able to choose which of your save-games to continue, but you only need one cloud save spell to reference those saves (so there's less to remember!)

Speaking of finishing, it looks from our database that the game has been completed over two and half thousand times, with several of those play-throughs by people playing two or more times through. We've had a great response to the game as well, with 80% of our reviews 5-star on the App Store worldwide.

Most of the lower reviews either look to the price - $5 is high for the App Store - or the length of the game; and it's true that if you simply aim to survive the story, it can be done pretty fast - missing of the content along the way, of course.

A little more challenge...

If you're looking for a bit more challenge, here's a carrot - the current best number of Gold Pieces to finish with that we've heard of is 54. Can you do better? Also, have you managed to complete the game without fighting the Manticore at all? Have you saved the Plague Village? Have you found the jewel-studded collar, or the Borrinskin boots? Have you made it through the Black Lotus? And have you heard of Vik?

Great game! I feel you are really on to something special here. I can see future episodes being more RPG-ish by allowing you to level up. The spell system is amazing and I hope that gets expanded. Allowing players to create their own spells using clues in the environment would be sweet. That way you start with some spells but not a complete spell book and would add to the personalization of the game. Lastly, using some word recognition software to allow players to type in some responses to move the plot forward would be sweet. At the end of each episode, players could read their journey and it would be as if it were written by them.

I guess I'll have my say in this as a proud inke lover.

Max number of gold pieces you can get is 82. ( Note, this means killing flanker and The Beast)

Boriskin boots can be found within the goblin mines after defeating the 2 trolls.

Jewel studded collar is in the brown hut of the harmless Elvin village.

Saving the plague village requires the herbalist potion from the shop you first approach. Or you can get infected and get cured at the waterfall which then you send someone.

Defeating the mantocore without raising a finger is a very complex method. Doz, Yob, Pep and Pep.

Making it through the black lotus requires nose plugs from Alliana in the Forrest.

Hearing about vik is easy. You simply buy the axe from the shop and show it to him. You'll get a free beer and a trip to the waterfall. ( note, it is highly recommended that you get caught in sorcery 2 on the ship to see vik. The reward will shock you).

On a side note, here are some tips that might help with later on in the game.

Getting rid of the fairy you meet can be done in 5 ways: you can destroy her at Gazza moons house, send her and the ruffian to the plague village at the waterfall, drown her, crush her to death and a more disturbing one, eat her if you haven't consumed any food throughout the game (at least that's what I heard!).

Another one is that you can get the locket in 2 ways, ignoring the elvin village and take the other path which you then investigate the grass. Or you cross the trap bridge by instead going through the pebbles, it will wash up.

A lot of people are saying you can fight the army in 1. Let me assure you that is false and is a hoax.

To get any two of the three carrot treasures in the same run is impossible. No matter what you do, you will always end up with one of them. It was also declared that you can get the boriskin boots in number 2 so I advise you get the locket or the jewel stuffed medallion and pass on th boriskin boots.

And finally, a lot of you people talk about the three carrot treasures, but did you know a fourth one existed? Very few know of this Easter egg and rarely stumble across this item. The only information I'll say now is that it's red.

I've found a way to get 82 gold pieces!

There is an item in this part, that you can sell for 4 gold, not deviating from "best gold route" :)

And max provisions you can get is 15 = 9 for gold, 4 free and 2 any way.

Max friends: 2.

I'd also add achievements:

- get kissed in the cheek by a witch :)

- DESTROY a village

- Have 0 stamina and survive.

Ah, good job on the 82 peices. (Mind telling me how to? I'll tell you the fourth carrot. It's a red rose, you'll find it next to the elvin village on the first bridge.)

I'll tell you, those acheivements are pretty hard, buttttttt.

You have to be really nice to Alliana, and in return, ask for a kiss. Also, ask if she wants to share your food with her.

This ones a fun one. You have to enter WITH your sword when you enter the taver that will make them angry. You summon a giant with YOB and stand back as he destroyed the village.

with the 0 stamina, your going to be more specific. Do you mean completing the game? Or continuing the adventure with 0? Because the only way to do that i know is to get hurled by the tree elvins.

I'll add some acheivments too :)

Get the bridge keeper in trouble by his wife.

Collect a total of 10 goblin teeth.

Complete the sands of daduley quest and fulfil the objective of slaying The Beast.

Defeat the general without any loss of stamina in the brawl. Easy one

Want to try the game with some different modes? Try hardcore

Hardcore is when you go without the spellbook, no rations, no money. NOTHING. and on top of that, you have to get robbed by the kids at the children festival AND hand over your backpack to the robbers to make sure your not getting anywhere the easy way. Don't worry, at the end, you'lol at least get forced 10 gold by the goblin king.

Side note,by our cannot escape the goblins at the entrance to the manticore cave.

You can cut off a giant's tongue on the right path in the right cave and show it to the barkeeper in the last human village: he is willing to buy it for 4 gold :). That makes it 82 in total. I've already ecountered red flower, though survival after it forces you to ask help from a spirit, which is i always avoid.

- You don't have to ask for a kiss at all, in fact if you play female character - you even can't(boo, homophobes) :) If you don't have food but have flower and give it - you can also receive a kiss.

- Also funny spells in this tavern:

make them clumsy - makes them laugh and leave, so you can eat their food.

summon two goblins one by one - men will flee, you can eat their food, but can also visit other places in the village, unlike with giant.

- It seems there are different ways to get 0 stamina and not to die(maybe they are bugs). For example: in elvin village i tried to get all the gold from right box and scorpio kept stinging me until i got 0 stamina, but i was alive and could continue the game(and hopefully finish it). I also got 1 stamina and NO food before night with giant bat, so the battle started with 0 stamina and... nothing, it stuck.

When you do best gold run - there is already no rations and no buys :). Having no spellbook does not prevent you from casting same spells. But robberies would certainly make it harder.

I'm starting to explore the second game, but still have one question left: how do you EAT the fairy?! I even died of starvation near last human village, fairy was with me but i didn't get an option to eat him :(. Please tell this secret.

When your going through the black lotus, you have an option to eat the fairy ( that's what I heard!) when your within the flowers apparently you can eat her/ him.

Btw, congrats on solving thoses.

The general is the guy you train with at the start. He's an easy on to defeat

Game mode WIZARD OF LIGHT REALM! At whatever opportunity you can, cast a light spell (a spell for good.)

WIZARD OF DARK REALM! Same as before but with dark spell ( manticore is a light spell since it was once a human)

BADASS: Be the biggest asshole you can be. Destroy things, kill, rob, anything! Just as long as it is bad

Yeap, everyone can, even if they delete app and remember the code.

Mine is VILATU, though it doesn't have character with 82 gold, that playthrough was not for best gold, so i didn't finish it.

My best ending has 45 gold and mass of magic items, i went through witch with choosing Magic. Also 2 friends and 3 keys.

Another question, you say "Defeating the mantocore without raising a finger is a very complex method. Doz, Yob, Pep and Pep.", but how can you be able to cast PEP in Sorcery 1? O_o

Oh, Pop is pebble, ok. Though i couldn't cast four spells in that encounter, i was forced to fight, UNLESS i casted HOT in that mysterious cave on the west earlier.

Tried again to eat the fairy - still couldn't achieve it in the field of Black Lotus with noseplugs or without :(. I didn't eat anything whole game and even slept less than usual.

If you could reproduce this - please tell.

I've just thought about one more thing - what if i don't get rid of fairy at all :) maybe sword +2, armband and blimberry would be enough to defeat the Manticore.

I got rid of the fairy in the Black Lotus field by letting it got drunk by the aroma and flew to the flowers, apparently being eaten by the flowers. Maybe that's it?

Is it possible to end book 1 without fighting the Manticore?

Just made a run with no magic(except the starting gate), opened locks with sword or keys(did you know that axe head is a good lockpick? cost me no stamina to free witch with it), got sword+2, armband+1, didn't get rid of fairy. Manticore wasn't that hard even.

Fairy left me after celebration, says city is too dangerous even for him.

I haven't found a way to get the barkeep in the waterfall town buy my giant's tongue, but maybe there's some chance to it.

Anyone know if going the Daddu-Ley route in 1 gives any benefit in Khare in 2? If you go that way and get the hair to return, the save when continuing in 2 mentions knowing the secret of Daddu-Ley.

I can't figure out the spell to get back up

The spell is TOP for mobile (haha get it) to find out the spell is to read the writings. The First mentions a P. The second one is tricky but you just cast SUS for the correct cave which is left with O when rolling the Boulder moss downwards. At the end it mentions a wizard turning the cave dark meaning you must cast FOG then a stone glows. Taking off the stone will reveal a writing mentioning a letter T. You need the lady's gold hair to cast it

There's at least one more way to get rid of Jann. If you still have her after you get past Gaza Moon, you make an escape at the Manticore pit, and you run away successfully, she will get lost when you are running away.

I'm curious as to the carrot treasures... What are these? I.e., which specific treasures do they pertain to? I'm guessing not actual carrots!

(Also, is there any point in holding onto the torn spell page, or is it as well to give it up as it can't be completed...?

Carrot treasures are specific items that won't be able to use in the first game. But generally in the third or second. These include the rose, emerald collar, boriskin boots and the padlock of a lady.

Thank you for bringing this back. One of my favourites from my childhood - then ten and now thirty... I still remember what all of the spells do from all those years ago! I really like that you have kept the original intact - instead of reinventing the story to suit the app, you have made the app suit the story. Fantastic music too! I read the original books over and over and over, and was so sad that I lost them at some point after leaving puberty. AAAAarrrgh! What a great find. Steve Jackson is a legend.

Sorry to bring this up again. I also have 78. 24 to start with, 24 from the two gemstones from the Goblin mines, 10 from the chief in the end - 58. 8 from the slain giant, 4 for his tongue - 70. Digging in Dhumpus, the troll guarding the hut next to the riddle bridge and Flanker's corpse - another 8, 78 total. No idea where to get another 4, particularly while sticking to the route above (so you can't get gold from Alianna, for instance)

What you described is 79 in fact(spent a coin for ale maybe?), pit + hut troll + Flanker = 3 + 3 + 3 = 9. So all you needed is giant snake after beginning gates. It's possible to return on same path after.

In the part 2 I believe you can win almost as much as you want in the Swindlestone casino. I only replayed that part once (so my maximum stamina is 19 now) and end the game with 280+ golds. But when I finished the third part I realized that golds help little in the Bakland so it seems meaningless to collect that much... Haha

If you play part 2 four times and collect a mass of gold, most of it mutates into gold bugs and flies away the instant you set foot in the Baklands. That's the game architects way of resolving the paradox of four copies of the same gold piece existing in one place. Furthermore, the black elves charge richer player characters more for everything. The game has a lot of levellers in it. If you already have items, they are not available in part three. Also, if a player character is weak, the non player characters go easier on them. The snake charmer will heal a dying player character, but will very likely attack a strong player character.

-the locket's use comes in book 4, I vaguely remember (as a kid in the 80s) that in the final book, there was some kind of guard room where you could give the locket to a captain of the guard to easily get past. It is not at all necessary, there are other ways, but it is the easiest.

-I very vaguely remember to Borrinskin boots being used in book 3 to escape quicksand maybe? Another situation where it isn't necessary, but nice to have...I think

-the TAK spell can also land you a black facemask, which is a spell component, one I can't find anywhere else in book 1 or 2

-Vik can be met if you sleep outside near the docks, and get scooped up by the slavers. Calling up to the guard, telling him you are Vik's friend, and talking about Glandragor (presumably only if you've met him in book 1) will get you out of the hold and chatting with Vik. You don't get anything from Vik, and you don't learn anything new though; he confirms some of the same kinds of information floating around.

-silver key from sorcery 1 is for opening the door in the same mines where you found the key

-silver badge in sorcery 2 can be returned to the blind beggar Theetah. Isn't necessary, but it is a nice thing to do I'm sure.

-John, I do not believe you can take part in the goblin's fight

Use these spells:

DOZ-YOB-PEP-PEP again, and you can run away or finish Manticore without fighting it.

Where did you use TAK? I tried to use it in Courga temple and only got a sun jewel.

Go at the top of the Courga temple use TAK (obviously not from take), close your fist and choose black spark making you have a black Facemask

The silver key can be used to pay a fortune teller in part 2. The badge can also be used as payment, or I also tried unsuccessfully to impersonate a noble.

Love it! Love the art. Love the map. Love the combat. Love the magic. Above all, I love the story, which I realize isn't your own, but I'm very grateful for your excellent transposition into the modern medium. I have been a gamer for over 20 years, and could count on one hand the games I have bothered to re-play. I have finished Sorcery once, and can't wait to get through it as many times as I can, not to mention get started on part 2! Honestly this is easily among the best apps I've played, and fits nicely into my top RPG's of any platform. Well done!

FTR, starting the game and instantly super irritated by the poor explanation of mechanics. It's lacking badly everywhere but here's a telling example: enter RAZ spell.

On the paper, RAZ makes a huge difference. It plain english, it says you apply it and bang, improved damages on your weapon (as it turns out from the little extra info I can find with google, huge improvement, especially as it's a multiplication on your base damages), at the cost of nothing. The beewax isn't said to be spend (as opposed to the gold piece in another spell), not other cost. Also, it doesn't state "for the next fight", no such limitation.

So what it READS is that it's a crucial upgrade to get (which can be found pretty fast) and foolish to miss. But it sounds like such a non choice (as in: it's a must have) it sounds like their must be some mistake somewhere.

Here's what normal game do: they have a table, where each and every important information for decision making process is presented.

I don't have that here, and it's hugely frustrating, as are the arbitrary limitation like I can't cast what I want when I want.

It's the second time I try to start that game (did finish the books back in the days) but this really, really puts me off. How can such a mistake still be made in this era ?
